Initial Conference

Our initial conferences are usually free of charge and on average take about one-half hour. To better assist you at your initial consultation, we ask that you fill out all of the information requested in the following forms and bring the completed forms to your meeting.

In addition, for individuals and couples, we ask that you bring a copy of your last filed federal tax return, a copy of the last six months paystubs, a copy of a recent statement from each of your creditors (including your secured debts like mortgages, equity lines, car loans, and car leases whether or not you intend to keep the property). If you do not have all of your creditor statements you can obtain a copy of your most recent credit report. You can download a free copy at www.annualcreditreport.com (see our links).

To file bankruptcy you will need to complete a credit counseling course from an approved provider no earlier than six months before your bankruptcy filing date. We recommend Allen Credit and Debt Counseling Agency. You can obtain the certificate via the internet at www.acdcas.com or via telephone at (888) 415-8173. It will take you 60-90 minutes to complete the course and the fee will be approximately $30-50.

For businesses, besides completing a business bankruptcy worksheet, bring a copy of the most recent business tax return, a copy of the most recent balance sheet and profit and loss statement, an inventory list, if applicable, and an outstanding accounts receivable list, if applicable. Also bring copies of any lawsuits, claims against the company, and copies of accounts payable invoices. We reserve the right to charge for the initial consultation for business cases as they take more time for a proper review.
